From the Director's Desk: An update on book delays

From the Director’s Desk: Book Delays

We recently shared that Baker & Taylor — the Nesmith Library’s prime book wholesaler for print books — announced it will cease operations and close by the end of the year. I wanted to give everyone a little more visibility into what that means for the library staff and our library users.

We have had to cancel all our current book orders with Baker & Taylor while simultaneously actively working to establish new vendor partnerships, but the remaining book wholesalers that serve schools and libraries are currently handling a surge of new customers and are a bit overwhelmed. This means that while we can place orders with our new vendors, shipments are less regular and timely than before as we establish new accounts and the vendors onboard numerous new clients.

What does this mean for you, our patrons? For the next couple of months, we may not have the new best seller on the day of release, and our NEW shelf might look a little bare. I know how frustrating it can be to wait for that new “it” book, and rest assured it is also frustrating for our staff not to be able to provide titles in a timely manner. The good news is that once we’ve worked out all the bugs we will be back to normal very quickly.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work through this temporary setback!
