The children welcomed spring by learning about eggs and chicks in Story Hour.
Pretty soon, there will be lambs frolicking in spring grass! The kids had fun in story hour learning more about these wooly friends. They used rhythm sticks and sang and made a fuzzy sheep of their own!
Isn't it nice to hear the birds chirping? In Story Hour this week the children learned all about birds and nests. They went home with a paper bird and nest and some jellybean eggs!
Children stopped by the multi-purpose room to make a snowman coaster, a melting snowman and do some coloring!
What would you do if you were walking along the beach and found a stranded seal? The Seacoast Science Center gave an informative presentation about seals and how we can take care of them. Children learned about the four kinds of seals we have in New Hampshire. The presenter, Miss Sarah, is an actual volunteer who responds to calls about stranded seals! She talked with the children about what to look for and how to respond. The children even pretended to be volunteers themselves!
We had a great time celebrating Chinese New Year! We rang in the "Year of the Monkey" with a skit performed by Windham children, a tea ceremony demonstration, and an authentic Lion Dance demonstration. Several Windham teens serenaded the audience with traditional Chinese instruments. After the performances, we enjoyed a sampling of Chinese food that was graciously donated by area restaurants. There were also several monkey and dragon-themed crafts for the children to create.Congratulations to the raffle winners.
This week in Story Hour, the children read about snowmen. They made paper snowmen and even had a "snowball fight" with cotton balls!
During this time of year, we want to do our best not to spread germs or get sick. In story hour this week, the children learned about proper hand hygiene.
The children learned about polar bears in Story Hour this week. The books, activities and craft were all themed around these white, furry mammals. We have a great variety of polar bear picture books. Come check some out!
