Cemeteries hold invaluable clues to genealogical research. Etched in stone are names, symbols, and abbreviations that not only tell us more about our ancestors, but also about their place in time. Register to attend, and then join us for a presentation by Erin E. Moulton, A Beginner's Guide to Cemetery Sleuthing, at Nesmith Library on Thursday, April 20 at 6 PM. Local genealogist and librarian Erin will cover strategies to help locate your ancestor’s burial place, discuss how to make the most out of a visit, and teach us how to decipher a variety of symbols. The presentation also ncludes a list of Erin’s favorite cemetery resources. Most of the presentation covers New England cemeteries, though many symbols can be seen nationwide. We are pleased to co-host this program with the Windham Historical Society.
