Summertime and the Reading is Easy!

“Summer Reading Program Registration and Kick-Off Party “

It’s been a long winter but now it’s time to enjoy the days of summer and join the reading program offered through the Nesmith Library.

We couldn't have a Summer Reading Program Kick-Off Party

with out snacks and a Mascot!

. . .  plus crafts, games and raffles!

The crowds rolled in!!

Library Staff members helped with sign-ups

One of our faithful volunteers!

Who will win the Mascot this summer??

Please note that if you didn't make it to the Kick-Off Party, registration will continue throughout the summer.  Simply stop by the library during regular business hours to sign up.

This year’s theme is “Summertime and the Reading is Easy” with a variety of programs throughout the summer.  Please note that registration for each program begins two weeks prior to the event.  Drop-In Crafts and Drop-In Story Hour sessions will also be offered this summer and do not require registration.

Numerous studies have shown that summer programs help ensure that school children retain reading and learning skills over the summer recess.  The Nesmith Library Summer Reading Program is for children of all ages.  “Little Listeners” registration is up to 4 years of age, “Read-To-Me” registration is for children 4 to 6 years of age, and “Independent Readers” are children approximately 7 years of age and older who are comfortable reading on their own.  The program is designed toward “reading for the fun of it” with great prizes offered as reading incentives.  Books are recorded on individual reading records and raffle tickets are earned.  The more you read, the more chances you have to win!

If you have any questions or would like further information, please call the library at

432-7154, and ask for Jane McCue or Karen Frey.
